UBT power substation construction started

The Utilities Board of Tuskegee (UBT) is now fully deployed and underway with construction of a new 28-megawatt power substation in the Tuskegee Commerce Park.

Construction teams are currently working at the site on Samkee Parkway in Tuskegee.

UBT worked with both the Alabama Department of Community and Economic Affairs, SCADC, and the Economic Development Administration in securing funding assistance for the new project. Over $4.5 million of grant funds was approved to assist with the construction.

The new substation will ultimately serve the new Samkee plant as well as any other new industries within the park as well as other businesses and residents on this end of UBT distribution system.

UBT teamed with the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) and Alabama Power to provide the transmission power for the site.

The new substation will go online by mid-2024 and will provide added capacity, redundancy and reliability to the entire UBT electrical system. UBT already has one of Alabama’s most reliable electric grids boasting an award-winning 99.997 percent rate of reliability.
